Loyalty Cards Merge Onto Mobile Phones Thanks to CardStar

June 29, 2010 | Robert Scoble

Loyalty programs are a huge business–whether it’s frequent flyer points or retail discounts.  The CVS loyalty program has over 60 million cardholders and Best Buy’s has over 40 million. CardStar allows you to combine all your loyalty cards in one place — your iPhone or other smart phone.

No more plastic to carry around in your wallet or on your key chain. The free app allows you to pull up the necessary barcode for scanning at the point of sale.  You can even clip deals and coupons–virtually–on your iPad.

In this interview, CTO of CardStar, Danny Espinoza, talks about the application’s functionality and the company’s business model and prospects.

Undoubtly, this is the future! Neverthless, I don’t think that Cardstar is the answer for consumers. I was using it until I got Cardmobili – great app for iPhone! It even allows me to find the nearest store! Oh, and I can share my cards with my husband, on the app – he has a Samsung, and they have an app for that device!

Very handy, and much more features than Cardstar….

Looking at the App Store from my iPad (just moments ago) and am not seeing the iPad version of the app. Downloaded it and it runs as an iPhone app not a native iPad app. Did I miss something?

Thank you, Robert, for the opportunity to speak with you about the exciting roadmap we have in place for CardStar.

Gerald, CardStar for the iPad is still in development. We are working with a number of third-parties to insure that we launch with a broad offering of coupons and promotions. Please follow @MyCardStar on Twitter to keep abreast of product announcements.
