Heroku’s Ruby Cloud Platform

April 20, 2010 | Robert Scoble

The Ruby on Rails developer community continues to grow, but writing smart applications with open-source software is only half the battle.  Deploying those applications on a robust platform is the other fifty percent.

Heroku, founded two years ago, is a developer-focused, Ruby Cloud platform-as-a-service provider. With 59,000 applications on Heroku—and 1200 being added every week—the startup is attracting plenty of interest.  They count Best Buy among their top-tier customers. One of the big triumphs of the Heroku offering is the ability to deploy an application in seconds using a one-line command.  And with a dynamic slider on their pricing page, Heroku customers can rapidly scale the resources behind their application; they can even make programmatic adjustments using an API.

Oren Teich, Vice President of Product at Heroku, discusses the company’s offering, its prospects, and future cloud trends in this interview.
