When we think of mobile operation systems, we think of Apple or Google. We don’t really think of Microsoft, even though they are the elephant in the room of both the server and the desktop operation system market.
Microsoft has never been one to tread lightly in a viable market for too long. They wanted to get mobile right though, and according to senior marketing manager Greg Sullivan, the next Windows phone had to take “a different approach”. Microsoft gathered some of its most talented developers to work on the platform for a launch set for the holiday season of 2010.
Sullivan claims this phone “treats your friends like people–not apps”. Windows 7 Mobile offers a hub for your contacts that allows you to contact them via the network of your choice. If you aren’t into social networks, Windows 7 also allows you to play your XBox games straight from your phone with the same username you use from home.
Will Microsoft take away mindshare from either Apple’s or Google’s ecosystem? Listen in for more features in this interview of Microsoft’s Greg Sullivan and decide for yourself.
