SlideRocket: the Official Presentation Software of South by Southwest

February 11, 2010 | Robert Scoble

We enjoy all the benefits of being able to create and share our documents and spreadsheets online.  For some reason though, presentation software seems to be stuck in 1995.  PC users choose PowerPoint and Mac users choose Keynote.  They aren’t collaborative and in the case of PowerPoint, they aren’t exactly easy to master, but that’s always been what people have used.

In comes SlideRocket, the official presentation platform of South by Southwest.  SlideRocket is web-based, unlike its competitors.  In the words of CEO Chuck Dietrich, SlideRocket is so easy to use, it can “turn a general sales rep or a low tech marketing person into someone who can make beautiful presentations”.  The most appealing part though?  SlideRocket presentations are living, interactive documents. A speaker’s slides can change in real-time.  Imagine watching a presentation about the stock market and suddenly the stock prices on the screen change in front of you.  Imagine answering a poll in a South by Southwest auditorium and seeing the results of that poll on the screen in front of you.  SlideRocket features a plugin architecture which makes these and other options more than feasible, and any changes will still be seen on the web well after a presentation is through.

Because SlideRocket is a SaaS platform, a retired presentation from 2010 can automatically be updated and can be just as relevant in 2015.
