Chamillionaire, the multi-platinum selling rap artist and entrepreneur, was one of six panelists on hand to discuss lessons learned using Twitter, as part of a two-day conference in Los Angeles, Calif., focusing on the how-tos of Twitter and its tools for business development
The Music Panel: Lessons From Engaged Artists, was one of two dozen forums held during the two-day 140 | The Twitter Conference LA organized by The Parnassus Group in Los Angeles. The September conference brought together the worlds of business and celebrity and focused on getting the most out of the real-time Web.
While with Universal Records, Chamillionaire shot to the top with his Grammy winning, No. 1 single “Ridin.” His latest work, ‘Venom’ is being released by his own label, Chamillitary Entertainment.
The title of the new release was crowd-sourced when Chamillionaire reached out to his fans to get involved with naming the project. His business interests stretch beyond music, with an auto dealership in Houston and a tour bus company.
The successful music artist quickly realized that as a business owner, customer engagement must be a central part of his plan. He is active in multiple social networks including Facebook, YouTube, MySpace and, of course, Twitter.
Lessons he learned about leveraging the power of Twitter to grow his world-wide audience are things every business owner needs to know, he tells Michael Sean Wright in this video.
“Its not just for a rapper or an entertainer,” he says. “Its for anybody (with a business) . . . consumers is what makes this whole thing go around.”
Twitter has been a central part of his daily enterprise, Chamillionaire tells Wright, a documentary filmmaker and founder of nicefishfilms.
Chamillionaire’s Web site is a rich media experience with an emphasis on community.

I’m gonna try to use this to promote my Lawn Care business. like a free cut or something along those lines for a couple of customers that follow me on twitter
Great explanation of using emerging media to establish a rapport with customers (fans, in his case). I believe many businesses can benefit from Chamillionaire’s insight expressed in this interview. Highly recommended!
